Glaucoma

Glaucoma occurs when the fluid in the eye (aqueous humor) is not properly drained, leading to increased pressure and damage to the optic nerve. It may not have symptoms in the early stages and can affect people of all ages.

Glaucoma is a common and serious eye disease. It is divided into open-angle and closed-angle types. It may also be referred to by other names such as "blue water" or "high eye pressure".

Risk factors include advancing age, family history, eye problems, and chronic diseases. Symptoms include blurred vision, headache, eye pain, and redness.

It is important to see a doctor when symptoms are present and to undergo annual eye examinations. Treatment options include eye drops, laser treatment, and surgery.
